Pageland is located at (34.771272, -80.391630)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.4 square miles (11.4 km²), of which, 4.4 square miles (11.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.90%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3 people, 2 households, and 641 families residing in the town. The population density was 575.4 people per square mile (222.2/km²). There were 1,071 housing units at an average density of 244.4 per square mile (94.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 54.34% White, 35.82% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.99% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 7.22% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.77% of the population.

There were 964 households out of which 30.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.4% were married couples living together, 20.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 11.9% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $29,046, and the median income for a family was $33,214. Males had a median income of $24,826 versus $18,452 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,190. About 21.5% of families and 24.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 37.2% of those under age 18 and 25.4% of those age 65 or over.

Famous residents

Corey Miller is a linebacker who played the majority of his nine-year NFL career (1991–1999) for the New York Giants.

Patina Miller is a former student of Central High School in Pageland. She went on to graduate from the South Carolina Governor's School for Arts and Humanities and later Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in musical theater. She has appeared on ABC's long running soap opera All My Children.

Van Lingle Mungo, born June 8, 1911, a right-handed baseball pitcher for the Major League Brooklyn Robins-Dodgers and New York Giants.

Robbie Caldwell, Head football coach at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, grew up in Pageland.
